Company Case Study 2
Match-day with Max
Business Overview:
Matchday with Max is a teenager and Nottingham Forest fan who uploads videos onto his YouTube channel called Matchday with Max. Max Hayes, who’s been uploading YouTube videos since 2016, has found good success with his videos and engagement rate. Max has seen his channel grow since 2019 when he was involved in an incident at Stamford Bridge (Chelsea FC’s stadium) where a matchday official ‘assaulted’ him. This made national news and his supports, in the thousands supported him and helped his channel grow. He is currently sitting on 6,270 subscribers, his subscribers have been increasing since the middle of 2017.
Sales and Marketing:
Max does not currently have a website but does have a strong social media presence. He is active on Twitter and Instagram and has a following on there. He has two of each accounts. One for his business and another as a personal account. Which are titled Matchday with Max and Max Hayes. Max has recently said that he wants to start doing merchandise. Which will be a good income for him.
Operations and resources:
On matchday, Max will travel to Nottingham Forest’s stadium, or an away stadium if they’re playing away and will arrange with people who want interviews to meet at a specific part of the stadium, e.g. the merchandise store and he will conduct interviews. After he’s finished the pre-match interviews, he will go inside the stadium where he has pitch side access and interview pundits and people more involved with the match itself. For example, an ex Nottingham Forest player. When the game finishes he will normally stand in front of the crowd so the cameras facing the fans and do a little analysis on the game. If it’s an away day, he’ll stand amongst the fans and do the same.
Staff and Management team:
Max does most of the work for his business on his own. Although Max does enlist help from his older brother to be a cameraman when out and about. Max however, does have a lot of connections outside of the family who helps him promote his videos, e.g. Steve Bruce (Newcastle manager) always has a lot to say when he's talking to Max. He's even said in one of Max's videos that he should subscribe to Max's YouTube channel and like his posts on social media.
Planning:
Max always does a lot of planning for his football matches. As I've mentioned above, Max always ask his friend to meet with him at a certain part of the stadium so he can interview them. Max always arranges where to meet his more important guests where he will meet them in the stadium.
Finances:
There is very little information on Max's income online. Max's business has a very little start up cost. Max started his YouTube channel just using his mobile phone and a cheap microphone. Most of Max's income comes from monetarization from his YouTube videos. Max also has a sponsorship deal with Mitre, which is a good additional source of income for him.
