So far this year my main focus has been developing my idea for a creative enterprise. But this year I have also done so much more than just formulate a business plan.
To start this year off, me and my classmates made a short film called Hollow, this film was about a group of teenagers, two popular and two unpopular who go into a woods, only to find out the two popular kids plan on killing the two unpopular kids, after these murders are attempted, it turns out that one of the kids survived and was framed for this murder, which he is later arrested for. I played a big part in this films production. Not only did I oversee most of the pre-production paperwork etc. I also played one of the unpopular teenagers, who was the one unfortunately killed. Since this was the production I've worked on in nearly a year. I really enjoyed making this film and it sparked my creativity bug which went away during the first lockdown and summer holidays.
In October, as part of my work experience requirement for this course I started working with the sports department at my college. Producing photos, interviews and video footage for their football program. Which has so far, despite COVID-19, went really well which gave me the idea for my creative enterprise, Matchday with Louis. I decided I wanted to put my two passions together, photography/film-making and football and start a business based of them two loves.
My ideas have not evolved that heavily over time. The foundations of my business haven't changed just a few little tweaks I've made to the business idea. These included more of an online presence over social media, paying more attention to it other than just mainly focussing on YouTube. I've also added a website to give my business an extra bit of advertisement. I believe this is good because it gives my business an extra bit of depth people who are looking at my business as a whole would be interested in.
After I had completed my business plan, branding and my business canvas I was set in what I wanted to do for my business. Doing these has enabled me to have a clear vision for what I want to do with my business. Doing these have also helped me discover the next steps in my business and what I need to do to progress it even more which I have taken action on.
I have learned a lot about myself since starting this business venture. I have learnt that I am a lot more patience than I thought. I have taken ideas on board and applied them to my business which I wasn't so good at before and something I've really surprised myself with so far this year is my initiative for new ideas and my ability to think short and long term not just about my business but in general. I think these are all really good skills to have not only for a business but again in life in general and I will be looking forward to applying these to any future endeavours I take part in. I've really enjoyed most of the course especially the practical parts of the course. I've found some of the written work challenging but none-the-less I've powered through it despite various set backs due to COVID-19 etc.
I sent my business plan to a professional photographer called James Rouse and he had some very constructive feedback for me and my business. The two main bits of constructive feedback I received was if my crew would work for free and about equipment and how I would get access to it. Another observation that James made was that my business would take a while to get off its feet, but I believe regular and quality content this would speed up the process. James also mentioned my USP which he found very appealing, the fact I was going to be covering multiple football clubs interested him and it is this reason I believe I stand out compared to other businesses. To help engage with my fans plus knowing what they want I will ask them questions about what clubs they want me to do as my business takes off.
